A Strong Staten Island Student Voice

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Meet Ava Gallo. This young lady with a strong velvety voice has been performing since she was in third grade.

She seemed to get the “theater bug” when she performed her second show ever: “Seussical The Musical Jr.” with the St. Teresa’s Standing Ovation Players.

Ava is now a fifth-grader at St. Teresa’s School and has won leads such as Annie in Annie, her biggest role to date. Her dream is to play the title character in the Broadway production of “Anastasia.”

With the vocal coaching of Samantha Hermansen, and theater direction by her sister Nicole Hermansen, Ava is on her way to shine in many more productions.

Ava says learning lines helps with school work, as both use memorizing brain tools. Her advice to others who would like to audition for anything: “Be prepared, know your song and your lines and try not to be nervous.”

And don’t forget: “After the audition, it’s just fun,” Ava says.
